James Browning

Grade 6 teacher

Beginning at the age of 16, coaching football was my introduction to working with young people. On the pitch, I was able to hone my skills in planning and delivering engaging sessions for children of a variety of ages.

In the classroom, over the last 12 years, I have gained vast experience, both within the UK and international sector. My career began in my home borough, where I was even fortunate to teach in all 3 schools that I attended as a child. The appeal of the wider world has taken me to teach in France, Thailand, Brazil & Switzerland.

Following three thoroughly-enjoyable years in Thailand, four fantastic-yet-frenetic years in Brazil, and 2 on the Swiss-Italian border, I am ready to take on a new challenge, and further broaden my experience and knowledge of international education. With regards to the growth of the school, this is an extremely exciting time for GIS. Becoming part of a team that strives to be a world-class IB school, and to participate in the long-term development of the community, is something that I am relishing. I hope to enthuse and empower students to be key agents in their own learning, whilst ensuring they have the passion to be lifelong learners and become inquiring, knowledgeable and caring global citizens.

These experiences have helped to shape my student-centred educational philosophy: where the role of the educator is to foster critical thinking, embrace and celebrate multilingualism and diversity, and facilitate meaningful action.
